This site receives emails from people regularly asking about bridge programs and through our research we have information that may help you in making your decision. I am speaking from experience because I built this site as an LVN looking for a good RN bridge program. I know firsthand some of the key things that you need to look for in your search. 1st, is the school that you are considering accredited with your state nursing board? This is a must have and you can find this info by googling your State Board of Nursing and looking them up. 2nd thing to look for is the school you are considering an accredited college? Some of the tech schools out there may be listed as accredited with your state nursing board but are not accredited colleges, so some day in the future when you go to get your BSN from a university it will not be accepted.

Some further points about the bridge programs to look for are what is the duration of the program as I have seen 8,9,12,15 and even 18 month LPN/LVN to RN bridge programs across the nation. Some of the risks to bear in mind are the shorter the program the more it will cost and the harder and more compressed is the curriculum. In many of the short programs they say they have 100% financing but in reality they only cover less than 20% for most people and put you on a payment plan which has to be paid in full by graduation. Although, it is more attractive to have your RN/ADN degree in hand in 8 or 9 months it may be far less stressful and less costly to go with one of the longer programs. All in all, do your research and you can find more info on prerequisites and LPN/RN bridge schools that are geo targeted to your location on the side bars from our sponsors. Good luck in your search.

Many people have contacted this site for advice with this dilemma. In my past experience there are two paths that you can take in this situation and they are either an accelerated program or a university program. Either way you go it is not going to be as easy as getting a double major and taking a couple extra classes and in some cases only less than half of your previous degree will transfer into a nursing program (varies from college to college). Generally speaking the accelerated programs are the faster way to go but you will have to go in steps verses all at once at the university program.

For example, if you have an AS Degree in Business you would need to satisfy all of the nursing prerequisites to the accelerated program before you could even start the nursing program. This would require you to go to schools that offer these services specifically for the purposes of transferring one or more prerequisites to your accelerated program. These services and some really good Accelerated Programs, LPN to RN Bridge Programs and University Programs can be found on the side bars of our site which are geo-targeted to your location.
