Senators working on health-care legislation are considering provisions to pare back the billions of dollars in tax breaks enjoyed by U.S. hospitals.

More than half of the 5,482 hospitals in the U.S. are nonprofits that don’t pay federal, state or local taxes, according to the American Hospital Directory. This status is rooted in the 19th century: the first U.S. hospitals almost exclusively served the poor; others paid for medical care at home. The tax exemptions were meant to help hospitals shoulder the costs of providing such free care. – WSJ

Even though not for profit hospitals enjoy their tax free status they have been using aggressive collection tactics for payments.

Many say they have been abusing a system that was meant to help the sick and poor. If these not for profit hospitals do not start providing more charity care, limiting charges to the uninsured and tame their collection practices the Federal Government may be coming in and greatly reducing this benefit.

If these greedy hospitals do not start increasing their charitable care and drop the aggressive collection tacticts they may loose their tax free status. Since the Federal Government has been looking for ways to grow and gain more power, now is not a time to tempt them with a Billion in extra income they can use on their National health Care plan.

If the not for profit hospitals loose their ability to provide charitable care for their local areas, the Federal Government will use this tax money to send benefits to those who they see fit. If you have kept track of the stimulus package that the Obama administration put together you will find that the majority of those funds went to areas that voted for Obama. One could call this “Buying votes”. If you think corruption is bad now, wait till all power has been shifted to the Federal Government.

The bad thing with the Federal Government handing out money is the best grant writers and the best lobbiests get the funds, not those who need the money the most. When you strip away the power of local people to donate to their favorite charities you take away that personal touch. Many people give to local charities because they know the people who run them and know they are not corrupt. A person in the Federal Government will not have this local knowledge. This is why I want to keep power at the local and state levels. If the hospitals mess this up and the Federal Government strips away charities and tax free status, this nation will suffer deeply.

People donate to charities they know work. The Federal Govt. gives money to the best “grant writers” and people that can get them votes. If you want a good example of corruption just check out ACORN

If you think what you have seen is bad then check out this recient Government Corruption. When I tell you that we need to keep those charitable tax dedutions I am warning you that Government corruption will use those tax dollars to help their friends and not the truely worthy. I trust a little old lady to donate to who they feel is deserving, NOT the Federal Government.
